The Perfect Day in Prevelly

Being a local to Prevelly, this is a day that would be on my Margaret River Region bucket-list whether I was discovering the area for the first time, visiting for the tenth or live here.

It really is natures playground; with beautiful beaches, world class surf breaks, access to the Cape-to-Cape track and delicious food options, all while being just a 10 minute drive to Margaret River town and in the heart of the Margaret River Region.

While Summer has officially come to an end, now is my favourite time to be in Prevelly. It’s Bunuru season on the Aboriginal seasonal calendar, known as the Second Summer. March’s average daytime temperature is 26degrees with only 3 days of rain and some nice wind free mornings. Through into April we often see the wind drop and some very nice ‘glass off’ afternoons with spectacular sunsets - this is also the month the World Surf League choose to come to surf the waves at Mainbreak for the Margaret River Pro.

The best thing about the ocean is the view is ever changing, its beauty will catch your eye no matter what season you visit in. Prevelly offers so may different options and experiences for all ages, a trip to the coast here will leave you feeling calm and adjusted.

Whether you can spend a morning, an afternoon or a full day exploring, here’s Swell Stays idea of the Perfect Day in Prevelly:

Surf - Head straight to the water for a surf in the morning at your favourite break, there are plenty to choose from and if you aren’t a surfer then take a drive and check them out anyway - Gas Bay, Grunters, South Side, Mainbreak or Rivermouth - take your pick!

Coffee - Time to strip off the wettie and head to the famous White Elephant Cafe for your morning coffee or breakfast. If you’re a Swell Stays guest, don’t forget to take your voucher with you for a complimentary coffee with breakfast purchase.

Swim - There’s nothing like a feeling of the crisp salt water of the Indian Ocean, it’s time to jump in for a refreshing swim at Gnarabup beach.

Lunch - Pack a Barbecue lunch and settle in at the free community BBQs at Riflebutts reserve or wander up the hill to Sea Garden Cafe for some fish tacos.

Swim - You’re at the beach after all, why not jump in for that second swim! When the tide and swell is low, there are some great rock pools at surfers point and to the north between the point and Rivermouth.

Ice Cream - Collect the car and head to the Prevelly General Store for an afternoon treat, we can recommend the locally made Mai Tardi icecream :)

Sunset - You can’t miss watching the sun sink below the horizon at Surfers Point, bring a jumper as it gets chilly in the evenings.

Dinner - We hope you have saved room for one more meal, The Common is a great casual family friendly bistro just over the road in Gnarabup. Grab a table and head up to the bar to order a generous size burger or California style tacos… don’t forget to wash it down with a well deserved local beer!

Well, that’s my idea of a Perfect Day in Prevelly! Pack to the brim with all the good things; sea, sunshine, exercise, food & good times.

Of course, after a long day it’s time to head back to your home away from home, if you’re lucky enough you’re staying at one of our beachside holiday homes just down the road in Prevelly or Gnarabup.
